Whole roselle calyces, dried dark burgundy and brewing to the most saturated red of anything we sell — a glass of it looks lit from inside. The taste is bracingly tart, cranberry and rhubarb with a faintly floral edge, and it wants either rock sugar or a partner like hawthorn to round it. Caffeine-free. Grown in Fujian, Yunnan and Guangdong. Serve it iced with a strip of lemon peel and it needs nothing else.
In Chinese this is written 洛神花 and pronounced luò shén huā.
