Tartary Buckwheat Tea (Ku Qiao)

苦荞茶 kǔ qiáo chá · 509
¥80 / 100g
Origin
Liangshan, Sichuan
Pack size
100g

Roasted tartary buckwheat groats from the high fields of Liangshan, where the black-husked variety grows. It is not really bitter despite the name — it pours golden and tastes toasted and grainy, like the crust of fresh bread, with a nutty sweetness and no astringency whatsoever. Caffeine-free. Drink it through a long afternoon or after a heavy meal, and refill the same grains twice before they give out.

In Chinese this is written 苦荞茶 and pronounced kǔ qiáo chá.
